Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica Chen Daojiang Attended the Reception in Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations Between the People’s Republic of China and Jamaica

    On 14th November, 2022, the Reception in Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the People’s Republic of China and Jamaica was successfully held at Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Jamaica.

    H.E. Chen Daojiang, Chinese Ambassador to Jamaica, the Honourable Dr. Horace Chang, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Security, Mr. Mark Golding, Leader of the Opposition, Senator the Honourable Kamina Johnson Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, the Honourable Thomas Tavares-Finson, President of the Senate, and other nearly 600 guests from various circles of Jamaican society, diplomatic missions and international organizations as well as Chinese communities, enterprises, teachers and students attended the event.

    Amb. Chen said that on November 21st, 1972, leaders of China and Jamaica made visionary strategic decision to establish diplomatic relations between China and Jamaica, opening up a new chapter in bilateral engagements. Over the past 50 years, China-Jamaica relations have achieved steady and healthy development and delivered fruitful outcomes in various fields to both countries and peoples.

    Amb. Chen stressed that the Golden Jubilee of China-Jamaica relations marks 50 years of mutual trust & respect, 50 years of mutual benefits & win-win cooperation, and 50 years of mutual understanding & mutual support. Both sides should make China-Jamaica relations more consolidated, deliverable and highlighted in the future so as to create a bright future for both countries.

Minister Kamina Johnson Smith said that Jamaica was the first English-speaking Caribbean country to recognize the one-China principle and establish diplomatic relations with China. China has yielded magnificent development achievements and made great contributions to enhancing South-South cooperation, from which Jamaica has benefited much.The Minister expressed her gratitude to China for its valuable support that promotes Jamaica’s socioeconomic development, including the Western Children Hospital & anti-COVID assistance. The Minister also stressed that Jamaica will continue working with China to enhance practical cooperation in various areas and deepen bilateral friendship.
