The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China(CPC) was successfully convened in Beijing from 16th to 22nd October, 2022. The Congress took stock of the great changes and remarkable achievements in various fields since the 18th CPC National Congress, and outlined the grand blueprint and chartered the path for building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects. On October 23rd, the new CPC leadership was elected at the First Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee. Xi Jinping was re-elected as the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, which reflects the common will of over 96 million CPC members and over 1.4 billion Chinese people, and is of decisive significance for advancing the cause of the CPC and China in the new era and for driving forward the historic process of national rejuvenation.
China will advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. From now on, the central task of the CPC will be to lead the Chinese people of all ethnic groups in a concerted effort to realize the Second Centenary Goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and to advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization. Chinese modernization is socialist modernization pursued under the leadership of the CPC. It contains elements that are common to the modernization processes of all countries, but it is more characterized by features that are unique to the Chinese context. Chinese modernization is the modernization of a huge population, common prosperity for all, material and cultural-ethical advancement, harmony between humanity and nature, and peaceful development, which will provide new choice for and contribute new wisdom to humanity’s modernization.
China will accelerate the creation of a new development pattern and pursue high-quality development. Pursuing high-quality development is the first and foremost task for China to build a modern socialist country in all respects. China will fully and faithfully apply the new development philosophy on all fronts, continue reforms to develop the socialist market economy, promote high-standard opening up, and accelerate efforts to foster a new pattern of development that is focused on the domestic economy and features positive interplay between domestic and international economic flows. China will build a high-standard socialist market economy, modernize the industrial system, advance rural revitalization across the board, promote coordinated regional development and promote high-standard opening-up.
China will promote world peace and development and build a human community with a shared future. China has always been committed to its foreign policy goals of upholding world peace and promoting common development, and it is dedicated to promoting a human community with a shared future. China will remain firm in pursuing an independent foreign policy of peace, never seek hegemony or engage in expansionism, adhere to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence in pursuing friendship and cooperation with other countries, stay committed to its fundamental national policy of opening to the outside world and pursue a mutually beneficial strategy of opening up, play an active part in the reform and development of the global governance system, and strive to make global governance fairer and more equitable. China will work with all other countries to hold dear humanity’s shared values of peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy, and freedom so as to join forces to meet all types of global challenges.
The success of the 20th CPC National Congress holds great significance for the development process of the CPC and China, and will exert profound influence on the whole world, injecting new impetus into China’s pursuit of friendship and cooperation with Jamaica and all other countries. As emphasized by General Secretary Xi Jinping, “Just as China cannot develop in isolation from the world, the world needs China for its development. The Chinese economy has great resilience, potential and latitude. Its strong fundamentals will not change, and it will remain on a positive trajectory over the long run. China will open its door ever wider. We will be steadfast in deepening reform and opening up across the board and in pursuing high-quality development. A prosperous China will create many more opportunities for the world”.
Jamaica was the first English-speaking Caribbean country to establish diplomatic relations with China. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Jamaica. Over the past 50 years, China-Jamaica relations have maintained steady and sound development. The bilateral practical cooperation has continuously been enhanced, and the broad-based people-to-people exchanges between the two countries have been carried out, bringing many tangible benefits to our countries and our peoples. A reception celebrating the Golden Jubilee of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Jamaica will be held on November 14th, 2022, which will speak volumes about the bright future of China-Jamaica relations and the huge potential of China-Jamaica cooperation, and to provide new momentum for raising China-Jamaica Strategic Partnership to a new level. On the new journey, China stands ready to work with Jamaica to share development opportunities, create more benefits for people of our countries and beyond, and make new and greater contributions to building a human community with a shared future!
