Remarks by H.E. Tian Qi at the Signing Ceremony of the Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation

between the Government of Jamaica and the Government of the People's Republic of China (October 18th, 2018, Kingston)

The Honorable Kamina Johnson-Smith, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade,

The Honorable Christopher Tufton, Minister of Health,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good afternoon!

It's really a good day with accomplishment for Jamaica children and China-Jamaica friendship!

Confucius said, "A gentlemen is always ready to help others to attain their aims." We believe that it's much more joyful to share joy than enjoy alone.

Both as developing countries, China and Jamaica are always helping and supporting each other under the framework of bilateral relations and the UN and other international, regional affairs. We enjoy partnership of "Belt and Road" Initiative and production capacity cooperation. Our friendly partnership is of equality, mutual respect, mutual benefit and for common development. We're real friends to cook and share cornmeal porridge.

I believe, with the completion of the construction of the Children's Hospital, the medical service for children in the region and the whole island will be substantially improved, a lot of job opportunities will be provided, the economic and social development in and around the region will be promoted.

Children represent the future of the nation and the friendly partnership between China and Jamaica. Our brotherly friendship and partnership require healthier and stronger younger generations to succeed and further develop from strength to strength.

Dear Ministers,

I'm committed to work closely with you to make today's agreement from paper to reality to benefit the younger generations as soon as possible.

Finally, I wish all the Jamaican children enjoying happy childhood, growing up healthily, getting together with your Chinese friends and feel alright.

Thank you all.
